How to Make uTorrent Downloads Faster

uTorrent is a free peer-to-peer software that allows you to share movies, music, games and other types of files with other users. However, download speed depends on a number of factors. Here's how to change uTorrent settings to make it faster.

Open Options and then Preferences.
From here, you can change the settings in the UI Settings, Connection, BitTorrent, Queue, and Bandwith tabs.

Enable the following functions in UI Settings. Put a tick next to the settings for System Tray that will make uTorrent do the following:

  • Always display the icon for the system tray.
  • Display notifications in the system tray as pop-up balloons.
  • Minimize the full-screen display to tray.
  • Open the tray icon with a single click.
  • Open uTorrent by clicking on the system tray.

Assign the following actions to the Listening Port:

  • Use port 60000 above for connections coming in.
  • Keep the same port instead of selecting a random port every time you start uTorrent.
  • Disable UPnP port mapping.
  • Prevent uTorrent from being blocked by your computer's firewall.

Make sure you have the following additional BitTorrent features selected:

  • DHT network should be enabled.
  • New torrents should also have DHT enabled.
  • Scrape information should be requested from the tracker.
  • Peer exchange should be enabled.
  • Blank IP or host name should be reported to the tracker.

Enter the following settings for your queue:

  • No more than 10 active torrents being uploaded or downloaded at a time.
  • A maximum of 5 active torrents running at once.

Assign the number of connections for your bandwidth:

  • Enable rate limit to transport overhead.
  • Disable rate limit to utp connections.
  • No more than 150 Global connections.
  • No more than 50 connected peers.
Go try and enjoy faster downloads than before!
